It can but you go over the wet portions with the "dry" function and it will take up most of the water left on the wood. Its an awesome purchase!

I take a wet sniffer pad and run it under hot water and mop with just that. My floor is bamboo and I was told to only use water.

You need to know whether your floors have a water-based sealant or poly. If water based, the swifter even with hardwood spray will eventually kill the finish. Bona only for that. For poly you have more options, like the general hardwood cleaners.

We use Bona once every two weeks, vacuum and very soft broom every couple of days.

And no shoes in the house. That helps a lot.

I have old wood floors too, and I mop much more often now that I have the Rubbermaid Reveal spray mop. It has washable pads and a cleaner bottle you fill with anything you want. I use water with a little castile soap most of the time, with vinegar sometimes, and with murphy's oil a few times a year. I also have the dry dust mop pad and a couple of extra bottles so I have all the solutions on hand.

Regular mop and a bucket with a ringer, like this one:

Bona mop. We use diluted Murphy's Oil Soap every few months to mop. We dry mop with the Bona Microfiber or sweep daily. We are a no shoes household, though. If you wear shoes in the house, you may need something more heavy duty.

I use Bona spray and a regular dry swiffer.

Avoid the steam mop. The issue actually isn't the water, but the heat. And of course, the combination of extreme heat and moisture is not a good thing for wood.

I use a swifter wet jet with the solution that is sold specifically for hard woods. I find it works well.

What I do to avoid streaks is I go over the floor once with a dry swifter. That removes a lot of debris and dirt.

Then I go over with the Wet Jet.

I've tried a number of things, and that works the best for really clean floors that look nice.

Bona mop and hardwood cleaning spray.

Steam mop is horrible forwood floors, too much water.

My husband and I are thinking that we might mop our wood floors more often if we had a fancy mop of some kind. (We are going off our experience of getting a dyson vacuum and using it pretty often, where we rarely used our old vacuum.)

We have seen a steam mop in action, and it seemed like it was sort of eroding the finish on the floor - as the somewhat shiny surface was much more matte after the steam mop. We haven't ruled that option out, but are interested in other choices too. If it makes a difference, the floors are the original pine or fir in a 100 year old house. They are polyurethaned and not fancy or perfect. We generally use fairly benign chemicals for cleaning.

So what do you use to clean your wood floors? Swiffer? Steam mop? Regular mop? Your advice is most welcome. Thanks!
