I'm sure she knows that's what many believe. It's not universal, though. She chooses to wear it, and doesn't want to be harassed for it. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. There are bigger issues for Muslims to worry about than nail polish.

uhm, sorry it is universal ( Muslim Woman here). nail polish is not prohibited per se, just that your wudu is not valid if you have it on while performing wudu. 2 options here:
1-pUT IT ON after your wudu if it is that necessary in your life
2-get the water permeable ones that are available on the market.

Wudoo is such a weird, irrational thing. Going to the bathroom and farting break your wudoo, but none of the traditional ablutions have anything to do with your butt. I guess one could say "to make sure your hands are clean," but one should be doing that anyway after going to the bathroom.

So the idea of nail polish creating a barrier to performing wudoo is ridiculous. But I think most religion (Islam and other religions) are more about the ritual, than the rational.

I read about a new, water-permeable nail polish that is taking the Muslim world by storm. But I do think God is concerned about other things than whether a woman is wearing nail polish.

I've been told that Masjid Muhammad is progressive, and that like in Prophet Muhammad's time, women and men pray shoulder to shoulder together. I have not been, but have heard some good things.

Why wouldn't you go to a mosque with women leading prayer? Why is that "too progressive?"

Fundamentally I don't believe in religion or god anymore, but I might have enjoyed the sense of community more if I grew up in progressive mosques that didn't treat women like second class humans.

I know that there are people that do this, but they're more independent and grassroots - usually praying in people's homes.

I'm more scared that there are mosques in the US that would get all over you for that sort of thing. That is old world thinking of the kind that gives Islam a bad name. People equate the tribal customs with all of Islam. But if you want progressive, why are you afraid of women taking a lead role? Can't have it both ways. Either you're about women being subservient or you're not.
