I agree that homeschooling may be the best option. My child has no allergies but drags in a good amount of dog hair a day. If your child has such severe allergies, it seems too much of a risk. Sorry he has so much. It must be difficult for you and him.

I'm looking for a new school preferably who understands allergies.

The allergist has given 5 additional medications, not helpful - just cause behavioral problems and my DS has not been school in months.

The current district is not helpful at all and is combative.

Your child should be homeschooled. I say this with all seriousness and zero snark.

Pretty sure this was a sarcastic post.

OP- My DS CAN attend school safely and does not need to be homeschooled. Unlike many parents with children having far fewer allergies than my DS, I do not require a whole school to be peanut free, or try to restrict bday parties to no cupcakes or pizza just because my DS can not participate in those events.

DCs who are allergic to all foods typically drink formula or have a G-tube to inject formula into it. There are many children with my DSs condition.

Huh? He doesn't eat ANY food?

OP - I've heard good things about Fairfax and I'm looking into schools there. I'd like some good DC options if possible of schools good with allergic asthma - new/clean schools.

Because the vast majority of kids don't have life threatening allergies to these creatures, they enjoy them, it offers an opportunity to learn about and how to care for pets.

I might post this in the SN forum to see if anyone knows of a school that works well with health issues.

The public schools in va are very supportive. I also have heard Langley is good.

Seriously? You need to be more specific. I doubt whether animal dander will be an issue at most schools. My kid goes to a nut-free charter school in DC & I know at least 2 kids who don't eat gluten who have survived.

Have you discussed this with his allergist? If its very difficult to find an acceptable environment, I'd be working closely with his allergist for advice on how to handle.

I'm looking for a safe school in either VA or DC for a 3rd grader with asthma and food allergies. Asthma is exacerbated by mold and animal dander.
