If my MIL touched me I'd smack the shit out of her. She needs to stay in her lane, which is probably not in your house at all.

^^ oh she'd also give me a list of ridiculous questions to ask the paediatrician. Questions to which I knew the answer. And both her and my own mother kept insisting I place baby on tummy to sleep even after I told them it's no longer recommended.

OP here. I didn't have the energy at the time to tell her to keep her hands to herself. And I was so shocked. First of all does she think I'm a total idiot and wouldn't realize if my baby couldn't breathe? And then the actual touching.. Ugh.
She was also always coming up with reasons why baby was upset. Oh she's hungry (after I just fed her) or oh she has gas (which she didn't have until after she mentioned it so I feel like she jinxed it lol) etc.
in the first few days I remember pumping and her looking at the milk (colostrum at that point) and saying "I've never seen milk that color before. Interesting." Made me feel like a freak! I told her it was super milk.
Eventually I started making fun of her. Like she'd ask what we've been up to and I'd tell her we both tanned on the porch or that I did the baby's nails. *evil laugh*

My mom went nuts when she visited when my daughter was born. Accused us of favoring dh's parents. Accused me of not "mothering" my child enough. Accused dh of sponging off of me (she didn't realize that he had a *paid* sabbatical and assumed he was relying on my income).

I call that the "good twin/evil twin" syndrome. Person acts like the "good twin" most of the time and you let your guard down and then something happens to set them off and the "evil twin" emerges and acts crazy. Took me awhile to understand that underneath the "good twin" veneer she was a white hot ball of anxiety and was just really good at hiding it until she was confronted with stressful situations like babies being born.

Took me longer to realize that it wasn't about me. I wish I'd understood that at the time. Sometimes I miss that crazy lady. RIP, mom.

Why are MILs so sneaky?

Is that another thread?

They really are.

I got along with mine very well before I had children. After I had my first, she came and hugged me tightly and laughed and said "Oh, I'll bet that hurt because your nipples are sore!" Then every time - every fricking time - the baby made a peep she'd shriek at me to feed the baby. My husband told her to cool it, so then she waited for him to be out of the room before she nagged me about it.

Oh wow. I wouldn't be worrying about my MIL's unreasonableness at all if she touched my breast while I was breast feeding because she wouldn't be in my house and I wouldn't be in hers.

Wait---your MIL put her finger on your breast while nursing because she thought the baby couldn't breathe????? You must be writing from jail because that's where I would be if my MIL ever did that.

Yeah. I get annoyed about the temperature thing. My mil is constantly putting on or taking clothes off my kid. He's too hot. He's cold. When he is perfectly fine. And it seems like it is random and inconsistent, no matter what the actual temperature. And this was even when I was RIGHT THERE.

After I called her on it (nicely) a few times she did finally admit she was being unreasonable. Now we agree she keeps her hands off the kids attire.

I'd have honestly smacked any hand other than my DH's that touched my boob without express invitation.

My mom does this. I am mildly annoyed, but I know she can't help her anxiety. Now, if my MIL did this, I'd be much more annoyed cause I did not grow up with her. Unfair, I know.

Am I alone I this? My perfectly nice MIL turned into an annoying nightmare when our baby came along. It was always
-it's too cold in here for the baby
- it's too hot in here for the baby
- there's a draft, the baby's gonna get sick
- the cat hair is going to make the baby sick
He list goes on and on. A few times she actually came up to me while I was BFing and pushed my boob with her finger where the baby's nose was because she claimed the baby couldn't breathe.

Most of the time I just let it go but sometimes I couldn't help but respond. Anyways thanks for letting me vent.
