DH drives from College Park to just outside Baltimore, off 695. It is similar to PP's commute from SS.

I work in DC, but my partner works in Baltimore (down town).
We live in Bowie, MD. He takes the MARC to Penn Station and then either bikes to his office (he has a fold-up bike) or he takes the circulator bus.
We used to live in Baltimore, and I took the MARC to DC, but after a couple/few years of it, I couldn't take it anymore. The MARC from Baltimore to DC in the morning and then returning from DC to Baltimore at night is VERY crowded.
My partner however takes the MARC in the reverse-commute direction (toward balto in the morning and back toward dc at night), and it's not nearly as crowded. he also has a shorter route.
There's plenty of parking at the Bowie MARC station, and it's free. I have the option of taking Metro Bus to the Metro (orange line) into work or I drive via 50.

How long was the commute each way including traffic?
It totally depends. I live near the Colesville Road entrance to the Beltway, and my office was in downtown Baltimore. On an average day, it took me 40 minutes door-to-door. But on a day with heavy rain or an accident on the Beltway or I-95, or road construction, it could take over an hour. More often than not, it was closer to 40 minutes and not a bad commute really since it was almost all highway, going against traffic. But then there was the long stretch of time when they were redoing the Baltimore city streets for that Grand Prix race (don't get me started about that) when it was over an hour every single morning for weeks. If your job is north of downtown Baltimore, like at JHU for instance, it will take another 15-20 minutes because you have to wind your way through the city on surface streets.

I'm the PP who suggested you would have to take light rail or subway from Penn Station. I only knew that I had taken light rail to Penn Station before, but have never done it regularly. If the PP who lives in Baltimore says it doesn't work, you should listen to her. My husband commutes to Baltimore from MoCo, and I did for years. We never found any good way to do it except to drive.

PP who lives in Baltimore again. I noticed that someone mentioned you have to take the Metro or Light rail to get from Penn Station to downtown. Neither of those options work. The Metro actually doesn't have a stop at the train station. The closest Metro station is probably about a 10 minute walk from Penn. The light rail makes occasional stops at the train station but it's also not the regular route and you have to wait for the special Penn Station trains. So basically neither of these is a very direct option. As I mentioned before, the buses are direct and work well.

For what it's worth we lived in DC for years before moving up here, and we really love it here. It's cheaper, our neighborhood has lots of nice restaurants and local businesses, and our area is beautiful.

MARC is pretty great. Comfortable seats, the monthly passes are reasonably priced, and you can eat/drink. There are a number of buses you can pick up right at Penn station to get you to Downtown Baltimore in about 10 minutes, including a free Circulator route (look up Charm City Circulator).
Parking in downtown in a nightmare so I would not recommend driving to work here. Parking at most MARC stations between DC and Bmore (other than Penn and Union stations) is free so you may be able to drive to one and take the train the rest of the way.

MARC goes to Penn Station in Baltimore, which is not downtown. You'll gave to take Baltimore's subway or light rail into downtown Baltimore from the train station.
