Dh just got a job in a new city. We targeted a few cities. He would say, "I am going to be in your city on [x date]. Are you available for an interview? He got several interviews this way. No relo package but we moved to a lower cost of living area and our house about half of what we had in the DC area.

I am about to do just that. Of course it's possible. Tell them up front you plan to relocate.

I always began my cover letter with something like "I have firm plans to permanently relocate to "your city" on "date." And at the end I put something like "I am available to speak by phone or Skype at anytime and am also able to travel to meet with you. Additionally, I will be in your area from "date to date" if you are interested in discussing my qualifications and any of those days are convenient for you."

My point was to let the employer know I was definitely interested in moving to the area and staying there.

How did you just move there first without a job?

pp, did you have any inside connections in that company or did you just submit your resume?

We are in the process of doing this now. My DH and I did several phone interviews but they all want to meet us. We scheduled them all for the same week and plan on traveling there in a few weeks to interview and house hunt.

Assuming you don't mean NoVa-MoCo, I'd say it's very hard to do unless you have been networking with a company for a while.

Where are you and where do you want to be?
