On the other hand, for America's birthday, you should have American wine.
14:42 had a good suggestion if you can find it. (The Petite Syrah/Petite Verdot blend from Michael David.)
There are many quality Zinfandels in that range, from Turley Juvenile (about 22, if you can find it and it's not marked up--saw it in Bell's on M St.) to Plungerhead from the Lodi area (about 15). Anything with the word "Rockpile" in it (a new region in the Dry Creek Valley) is also going to be good.

2010 Catena High Altitude reds (Argentina, Mendoza region). The Cabernet is about 20, the Malbec about 24.
These are 90+ Parker wines. Comparable California wines would be 80 to 100. Comparable French wines would be priced like sports cars.
These are Maryland prices, you'll do better in Va. or DC.

If you are a Costco member, go there and get an Argentinian Malbec for $10 or less. There will be more than one to choose from, not including the Kirkland label (which by the way is very good.)

Love Apothic Red. Try Moss Rocks (around $18) available at World Market (which has a great wine selection, by the way).
