I think Schwab is good if you plan to trade or hold stocks (and some ETFs). If you are just planning to sell and put it in Vanguard fund, then I would probably just call Vanguard.

Vanguard is low cost which generally is really great, but I have to say Schwab put more money/emphasis on service.

You are correct if you're assuming you need to open an account somewhere to sell inherited stocks. We did the same, went with Morgan Stanley.

I've considered the possibility of selling some of the stocks and putting them in a Vanguard index fund or ETF, so a Vanguard account would definitely be convenient.

I find myself in a position that I need a brokerage account. (for inherited stock)
I don't plan to do frequent trades or even change anything, just leave it as for the most part.
I could just leave it in the current account, which is a full service brokerage, but I don't really think I need full service.
Do you have a brokerage that you could recommend?
