You need to tour GMU campus. There's non-stop construction.

Conservative. But if you're considering colleges in Virginia, you either do not recognize this or know you have found your fit.

CNU has a far more cohesive college campus. GMU has more commuter students and has spread to remote campus locations rather than revamp the original buildings.

CNU seems to have gotten a lot more popular since JMU and VT have become more competitive.

This doesn't make any sense.

I think all the ones immediately above are 2nd tier.

I think it's a third-tier university in the Virginia system.

Approximately 5,000 students. Gaining in popularity. Paul Trible (former U.S. Senator and Congressman) is the president and recently renewed his contract. Trible has the whole freshman class to his home (in shifts over a couple evenings) for dessert in the first weeks of school. He and his wife, Rosemary, make a real effort to get to know students. Facilities are nice and there is always something new being built. Recent additions have been a new gym, science building, sophomore dorm, and a chapel. Niece attends and loves it. She is in the Presidential Leadership Program (PLP) and loves the advantages it has given her to gain internships as well as access to a good speakers series. For kids who get really involved there are great benefits and access to the administration. Class sizes are small and professors and advisors are accessible. Niece appreciates that there are no teaching assistants. Fairly conservative campus but niece says she has all kinds of friends. Newport News is okay in the immediate vicinity of the campus, but it has its fair share of problems to be sure. The CNU alert system keeps kids and parents up to date via text message whenever anything is going on on campus or the surrounding area. That being said, there are lots of interesting things to do in the tidewater area and niece says she generally as way too many options. It's definitely worth a visit to compare it to other state options.
