+1 It's OK for dogs but not for LOs who can't hold it in too long?

So, I wonder about this. I have a newly potty-trained 3 year-old (wearing underpants for 5 days). Most days we go to the one playground in walking distance. By walking distance, I mean probably 3/4 mile from our house. It is in a very residential area and there is no public bathroom any closer than our house. We could drive, and maybe with a newly potty-trained kid, I should, but he is also underactive and so this walk to and from the playground is pretty crucial exercise for him. If he has to pee, I take him into the woods to pee. Is that bad?

What about using a travel potty that collects the waste? Still gross?

Dog pee is okay to touch and drink; boys' pee is toxic!

(snickering).

+1. Obviously, you seek cover and don't pee in the sandbox. But if you people worry about "walking through urine", what do you think about all the dogs around? That's way more disgusting than some kid's pee.

This is disgusting! Other children are playing and there is always a bathroom of some sort nearby. It is not acceptable for males of any age to urinate in public and it is not acceptablr for females to do so.

I have 2 boys.

THey've both (well, when they were younger) had to go outdoors for various reasons like no potty, etc. I usually take them as far away from trafficed areas as possible, into bushes/behind tree to minimize likelihood of people walking through urine. Not that there is a huge quantity at younger ages.

Not really sure what you mean by your thread title--except that I find it a little crass. And if they're truly urinating into the wind, they're getting it right back at them.

I think it is gross to just stand anywhere and pee (and I am a mom to an almost 3 year old). Really, you should at least take them to a tree or bush so it's going to get absorbed into the dirt.

I think it's ok of they are training or there is absolutely no chance of holding it. After 5, they should be able to know that they have to go far enough in advance to hold it and find a bathroom.

I only have a daughter but I find this weird too. When I see parents of boys let them do this, I generally think, "Yuck," and, "I think I'd just go find a potty." Shrug.

Ill preface this by saying I'm a mom to a newly potty trained boy. In the last few months I've seen a handful of boys at playgrounds, other outdoor spots pull down their pants and piss in the wind. In one case there was a loo close by but the mother seemed ok with this. Am I a prude? I've been in a spot where we had to pull over to the emergency pee with ds but we cover him and tell him that it was an emergency and he needs to use a proper loo. I don't understand conditioning your sons that pulling down their pants (especially when they are 5+) is ok.

I don't allow it either. We were with a child who just said he'd pee in a tree and I told him no, we will walk down the street and use the potty. We don't do that here.
