OP again. The DR actually already has a chair rail, so this would be easy. It's not a look you see too much these days though, right?

As I was browsing Houzz, I found a green I really liked. Thoughts?

You could add a chair rail (crown modeling that runs around the middle of the wall) and then paint the bottom a deeper color and keep the top half and ceiling white. Then you get the bold color without it feeling overwhelming or too dark.

Sage

moved the DR into a new addition (sunroom the previous owner had added) - two walls of windows over looking the garden, original brck of the house painted a creamy white and one brick wall (accent wall) painted a soft 'burnt orange'. ceiling is original tongue and groove re-sanded and re-stained in a maple.

light orange-yellow, we have tons of windows and the light makes it very warm with the color of the walls.

We painted ours a dusty blue-gray. Our kitchen is bright yellow and our main living space is a light tan. It looks great, IMO. I would probably love your house.

Ours is a sage green too, off a mustard yellow kitchen. The only way I could talk DH into color was by picking colors that read neutral.

But if your DH is board, screw what's popular, go bold. You're the one who's actually living in it. Paint it to suit what you like. If you do end up moving in a few years you can always have it painted blah neutral before you show the house.

Our is sage green with a terracotta-ish color accent wall. We get a lot of unsolicited compliments on it. I say go with some pops of color (the whole thing bright blue might be a bit much depending on the blue.)

We had red in our old house and I loved it! In this house we have pale blue and I don't like it.

i had red as an accept (in recessed bookshleves) in our old place and decided we would do our whole room in red if we moved - so, we moved, did the dining room red and hated it - it was much nicer as just an acent. we'er now grey and very much happier.

i would do blue as an accent - even if you did half the wall or a stripe all the way around the room or something. but to do the whole room might just end up feeling clautraphobic

My dining room is white. It was red so I was happy to get rid of that. I tried blue but I kept picking colors that looked like a baby's room so I gave up and painted it white.

I am redoing my kitchen and am going to paint the dining room next. My kitchen is very neutral with pops of bright blue and yellow from accessories like towels, bowls, canisters, etc. I was thinking of painting the dining room bright blue as well, but am wondering why nobody seems to use bold colors in their dining rooms. Almost all the professional decorated DRs on Houzz have neutral paint colors. FYI, the other room that adjoins my DR is the living room, which is also neutral.
