Lobster House is good but very crowded. Go early and prepare to wait. Try to go on a week day. Other good places with kids: Blue Pig, Gecko's, Mangia Mangia, C-View.

Cape May Point beaches are exactly like the ocean. The sand is so nice and soft and the waves are usually good for boogie boarding, etc. Truly no difference. And I've swum in them many, many times. There are no sharks. The lifeguards are also excellent. You will have a great time.

The Lobster House has good food and is fun for kids.

Water around here is not warm until Aug. or even early Sept.

I think they mean NOT mucky, marshy, squishy mud with brownish green water like most of the Chesapeake, or the Albemarle & Pamlico bays in North Carolina?

Cape Charles and Kiptopeke State Park (Virginia part of Eastern Shore) have nice sand and a lot of clean salt water makes its way up there so even though they are on the bay and have tiny waves they are more ocean-y than say Annapolis, Chesapeake Beach, or the shores of Kent Island.

As a sailor I found the lower Rappahannock River has really nice clean water by bay standards.

People in Long Island/Hamptons - basically any bay north of here - don't know how good they've got it - the water there was so much clearer than what we get here in the Chesapeake.

I've been in June and July and found it very cold - not sure about August. I'm sure there are some northerners who find 70 degree water balmy but it's not for me. I also think the difference in temperature may make it feel colder then it actually is (difference between air and water temps) but I'm not sure about that one.

I'm from Jersey and am confused -- what do you all mean when you say it's not "shore like"? In NJ we call everything on the Atlantic Ocean "the shore"? Do you mean it's not like the eastern shore (e.g., bay vs ocean)?

Its wonderful for kids - sleepy, small and great for bike riding. Everything is kid-friendly though you will need to go into Cape May proper if you want something fancy.

Super beachy- not at all shore-like. Lots of waves, dunes etc. and the swimming is great. I'll be there at the end of July!

I've been to cape may and it is definitely beachy and not shore like. I've stayed on the eastern shore and am from LA so I know the difference.

That said, I don't swim in the ocean and never got in at cape may so I can't say if you want to swim

I'm curious about this too. Is the bay as clean to swim in as the ocean?

I have never been to this area and the rental company assures me that despite our beach being technically the delaware bay, it will be just like the atlantic ocean.

For those who have been to cape may point, is this true?

Before we rent a house, I want to make sure that it will have the same ocean feel ( I know there will be less waves).

Also, this is random, but someone said there are a lot of sharks in the bay??
