I contacted a well known tattoo shop in Dupont. They wouldn't perform even the most basic ear piercings for anyone under 18.

Good for them.

Piercing guns cannot be sterilized properly (autoclaved) since they contain plastic components. They also cause much more trauma to the ear than having it done at a place that does body piercings. Younger sister had it done first set done at Claire's, second piercing done at a body piercing place. Body piercing place was incredibly clean, all instruments came out of autoclave bags, and she said it was a lot less painful than the piercing gun.

Reputable tattoo parlors and some pediatricians use a device that basically cuts a neat "core sample" out of the ear, after which an earring is inserted.

Sounds PAINFUL. We went to Claires. Second the idea to have two people do it sumultaneously.

I took my 9 year old DD to "Icing" at Pentagon City. The girls were so nice and did both at the same time. She was thrilled, and I plan to take my other girls there when they're ready to get theirs pierced.

Tattoo shop in Fairfax. They did a fabulous job! Great attention to placement, sanitation, etc., and spent a lot of time with us.

Took DD (6 y/o) to Claire's at Tyson's. Our pediatrician doesn't do ear piercing. The girls at Claire's were really nice and went a long way to help DD feel relaxed and comfortable.

Then we went to AG store! :o)
