Avenue Inn! They're a block from the beach on he main strip. They just did a great new lobby renovation. Free breakfast, free wine and cheese in the evening. They provide beach chairs and will even drive you to the beach on their golf cart. Family friendly and family owned.

Book it now if you are thinking of going. There aren't many hotels there, and they fill up fast. I think 3 days in perfect.

We were thinking of going for 4 nights and 3 full days. Too long? Just right? This is all the time we have off of work, so we can't go for longer.

That will work well.

We like the Brighton Suites. They are super-friendly there, the suites work for a family (no frills but they work), and I love that they provide beach chairs, umbrellas etc. - it makes the logistics of going to the beach so much easier than they otherwise would be.

I have not stayed there, but the Oceanus Motel, which is not a suites hotel, gets good reviews on trip advisor and is moderately priced. I stayed at Brighton Suites years ago and found it a little shabby, but agree it is likely family friendly.

But be prepared for a lot of places to be booked right now, although maybe you could do something mid-week. Also the last week in August isn't as busy since some schools are starting by then.

This is a kid friendly hotel and if you have a kid it's great. We went with our 1.5 year old who was getting up at the crack of dawn and making all kinds of racket before falling asleep and it didn't matter. Why? Because everyone else had kids and all their kids were making noise as well. We just blended in. I would never in a million years stay here without a kid, but with a kid it's perfect. It is a suite with a kitchenette in the room (coffee!) so you save something there. They have a mid-week special which makes it less expensive and less crowded. This is a budget friendly family vacation, and if you look at it that way it's great and the noise isn't a problem. We are going back again this year with our now 2.5 year old. He'll be the one singing the Wheels on the Bus at 6 am.

For "close to the beach", it doesn't get much better than the Beach View motel. Unfortunately, there are no suites, so we ended up napping with the kids. However, our room did have a small balcony, so perhaps if you had a balcony room, that would work.

Thinking of taking a short beach vacation in late August with the kids - 3 and 5 months, looking for a hotel close to the beach that we could easily return to for naps. Would love a place that has suites so the kids could sleep while the adults hang out. Also, hoping for something not ridiculously expensive. Thanks!
