I got a letter and my child was not identified gifted. Which is fine, I'm not concerned. What concerns me is the disparity in the testing, he scored a 90% in onw test and a 20% in one test. I tried to google and couldn't find ANYTHING about the testing. I was told the test was given all in one day which could allow for this kind of disparity, but still, that is a HUGE range.

Target for HGC is top 3 - 5%.

HOwever, that's measured on a number of factors and the tests they use for the second grade ID letter aren't the same.

Basically, it's good info for you to see your child's scores but they won't really get much different in the classroom from a GT designation. It's kind of misleading.

22:43, if you are in MCPS, then your ES should feed into a program with HGC. It isn't called "GT" at the ES level in MCPS.

And to 20:53, it's my understanding that all students receive their results, regardless of the score. Last year, ours came home in the folder on the very last day of school.

At our school they told us every parent would get a letter, regardless of status. Hint: look at the last paragraph to get the low down. Our school doesn't actually have a GT track or program, so not sure how much it matters (sadly).

those are not HGC letters, that is a completely separate and different process; the application process for the HGC program takes place in the fall of 3rd grade

Does anyone know, if your child is not identified do you still get a letter with the Inview results? I would assume so, but was wondering.

The HGC centers are a completely different process. 40% of MoCo students in 2nd grade get a letter saying they are gifted. More are added during a retest in 3rd and 4th grades. The status means absolutely nothing..though it is certainly can't hurt.

Anyone can apply to the HGC, not just those identified as gifted. What does the label actually get you? not much. But the state says they have to identify, and so they do.

I think it means the target to be considered for HGC is to be at 80%. Not all of MCPS can be anywhere near 80%. (Not even all the precious snowflakes on DCUM can be at 80.)

Do any veteran parents with older kids know where to find more information about how to understand the inView subtest results? The letter says "The target score for Grade 2 students is at the 80th national percentile." What does this mean -- is that the target for MCPS? Or for the whole country?

I've googled this but am coming up with no useful information, including looking at old threads on DCUM.
