DH is a manager at MITRE. He agrees with 19:26. Hiring is definitely lower due to the fiscal climate but if he sees a position he likes, apply away. His department is opening a req for a position this month (not IT though), so hiring has not stopped.

I was basing my recommendation on what I know both companies are hiring for, not to debate what IT is. I'll just take my CS degrees and go google IT now...

It's weird to me that folks think that "doing IT" is some monolithic type of work that allows one to compare salaries across it. Doing IT tends to be what people say when they don't want to explain exactly what they do for whatever reason. You can't really say person A and person B both do IT, so their salaries should be comparable.

It's definitely shifted a bit, but this is the post above doesn't ring true, given the fact that the recent RIF was so expensive due to the payout of severance to those affected. The work program is clearly shifting, but like many places, the culture is driven a lot by local mgmt.

I understand that they have had reductions in force due to the sequester. I don't know if they have stopped hiring.

DH is looking for a new job as an it manager. Does anyone know how things are at Mitre these days? Is the sequester reducing hiring? Thanks!
