Meskerem's also pretty well-known Ethiopian.

If he wants "ethnic food DC is known for," do Ethiopian. DC's abundance of that cuisine is pretty hard to find elsewhere.

While delicious, I think that Rasika is more "trendy" than "ethnic."

No. It is famous, but it is bad food.

ben's chil bowl

(I was actually going to suggest Ethiopian too. A huge percentage of Ethiopians/Eritreans who migrate come to the Washington, DC area.)

Dukem and Etete are as good and much closer than Ethiopic. Etete is better than Dukem. There is no good Indonesian in DC.

Ethiopic for ethiopian, but you might also consider seeing if you can get into Little Serow (Issan Thai, no reservations).

Ethiopian. Ethiopic or Queen of Sheba would be my picks.

Good buddy of mine is coming to town tomorrow and staying at the Mayflower. Wants to go to dinner at an "ethnic restaurant DC is known for," to quote friend's email.

He would prefer to stay near his hotel b/c of scheduling stuff, but is willing to venture. Mentioned Ethiopian and Indonesian, specifically.

Any thoughts? thanks!
