If your child wants to be considered for athletic recruitmaent, they'll need a resume for many sports that have showcases or national events. Mine had several different versions that were requires to list not only GPA but also SAT scores. It worked -- she was recruited for DI Ivy.

Some kids attach resumes with additional information on extracurriculars, but unless they have a very specific talent/skill, and use the resume to list all the very high level awards they have won (ie musical competitions, possibly sports achievements), my friend the Ivy admissions officer says that usually the longer the resume the more ridiculous meaningless activities are being listed, and that really the people reading applications only want to see the key important parts of an applicants life, which should fit onto the Common App.

So unless applying for a job or a teacher asks for one to help him/her write a recommendation then don't waste time on it. however, it can help a kid to organize their thoughts/memories to prepare a resume or summary of their activities/achievements/education in preparation for filling out the common App.

My kids both have resumes for applying for jobs. It is also useful to provide them to the teachers writing the recs. my DCs teacher asked for this. I recall that they are optional on the common app.

Nothing. The scores will be for the tests taken. You don't even have to take the tests you pre registered for.

My child was recently accepted to four state universities and has never written any sort of resume; I can't speak for private institutions, though.

It's all part of the process of "self-discovery" that college admissions has become. Just read Crazy U and then relax. The craziness around admissions has gotten out of control on all sides. The bubble will burst soon.
