I think ours was about $1200 including the door. It was not an existing doorway so was more complicated.

You need a licensed to do electrical work in Maryland. General contractors, on the other hand, are not required to have licenses.

So, at least in Maryland, a general contractor can only do electrical if they have a license to do so or if they subcontract it.

And that is for even "basic" electrical.

Well, and it also matters if there is electrical in the area where she wants the door, because that has to be moved. And usually a contractor will have to have an electrician move the wiring (not the same person doing the drywall labor).

Are there any light switches or outlets where you want the door to go?

It all depends where you are installing the door. If it is in a wall where there is no electrical/wiring that has to be moved, it's not as much of an issue. It also depends if it's in a wall that is a major support.

You really need to get quotes from people who come out and actually look at where you want it installed. It really can be a big range.
