No answer to your question, but my son was the same. In addition to track, which didn't start until 7th grade (he now does 5ks in high school), he liked cycling, tennis and badminton. Just throwing out some other ideas for you. Cycling is great because he and I can do it together.

I'd check with your local road running club to see if there is any formal program. The programs may be more active in the fall and spring.

have you thought about kids runs before 5K races? They vary between 1/4, 1/2 and 1 mile. If he goes with a friend, it is a lot more fun.

Looking for something like kids on the run. He's definitely not a serious athlete type. Just want him to get some exercise. (If it was up to him, he's sit in the house with a book!) NW DC.

Don't do it! You will have no life. The schedule is worse than ice hockey...lol. Check out firebirds, CSA, ideal 5 etc

8 year old boy, not particularly interested in group sports at this point. wonder if there are any running clubs around? trying to think of other ways for him to get exercise....
