Actually I don't think dogs will generally eat their owners. ... cats will. But I think I've read reports of dogs starving to death next to dead owners

I can answer this question with one word: bacon.

Our dog loves us dearly, and we love her too. She is an incredibly giving, caring creature.

Yes, they love you but they are animals and if they were starving they would eat you.

Of course! They are basically toddlers. The most uncomplicated, dependent kind of love there is. Love me, love me, love me. And I love you too.

My dog loves me but that's because I feed her, walk her and pet her. I'm sure she'd love anyone who did those 3 things.

I think the animal version of "love" is different than what we may think it is... the dog may just think of us as a member of his pack, it may be just an instinct and in his mind, it's not really "love." But if you think of love as someone being endlessly loyal to you, wanting to be close to you as often as possible, wanting to protect you from harm, etc., that's not too far off from true love! Imagine if spouses could maintain that behavior as well as your dog does! Really, love is in actions, I guess!

Yes. That's what's wonderful about them. You have this wholesome, uncomplicated, loving relationship uncomplicated by human drama.

This is a good answer. Of course, our dogs are capable of love.

Absolutely. My dog sometimes hugs me back when I'm hugging her. She gazes into my eyes adoringly. She absolutely loves.

I always wonder this. I tell the dog, "Love you darlin'" and people always say that their dogs love them but are dogs capable of love?
