Wads of cash for teachers is very minimal. Your school will probably have an 8/9th grade prom the wads of cash will be in the thousands.

At the high-school level...coaches, sponsors, band directors and PTSA are in charge of large sum of cash. Just recently we had over 10K in our possession in cash only; collected from fees and fundraising activities.

Well, duh, but if the school would accept checks AS ONE OPTION, that would be a lot better than ALL of the $$ being in cash.

It's not the kids "keeping hold of $60"; it's having teachers be the caretakers of thousands of dollars in cash. There is such a thing as the "appearance of impropriety" and teachers with wads of kid's cash should not happen if everything is above board.

my kid would not be going to Six Flags.

but for any other field trip I can understand them only wanting cash.

A lot of people don't have checks anymore. I haven't carried a checkbook in decades. I write out one check every few months and that is only because a particular farm doesn't take credit cards and I never have sufficient cash in my purse so I take a blank check with me when I go.

Yes, and you probably recorded it on BetaMax. That doesn't mean that time stood still and there isn't now a better way.

Does this strike anyone else as absurd and risky? I understand that they may have gotten stiffed in the past by bounced checks for this end of the year trip to Six Flags--but then set it up where you pay online. Or give each child a receipt after they pay. I can't believe they expect 800 or so parents to hand a teacher or some office admin $60 in cash and say--"have fun at the park!" I really wish that Deal could modernize this permission slip nonsense and get it all online with PDF sign offs and digital pay.
