I have to agree. We love RCV! Admin and teachers are great. Great sense of community. We couldn't be happier!

RCV is an amazing school. It has gone through some transitions recently (new admin from a long standing and very strong principal, some new teachers, etc) but is still amazing. The teachers there are dedicated, passionate, and very thoughtful, especially in the upper grades. I have loved having my kids there and would recommend it to anyone. My oldest, who is about to graduate high school, still talks about fifth grade as the best time of his life and keeps in touch with his teachers. Love this place and will be very sad to go.

Any additional comments on RCV vs Flower Valley? Are they both still solid? Would love to hear from parents with kids in those schools.

Worried about 5 out of 10 rating on Greatschols.

I don't know much about the great school rating (like what it actually means and how accurate it is). We have just started at the school with a brand new principal who I have liked so far. So, the issue could be that this was a year of transition for the school.

I was wondering about the same thing. We are deciding to move to around FV elementary school. Why are the ratings low in 2011, compared to other years?

Is the new principal good? My kids will be transfering from Rock Creek Valley to Flower Valley due to us relocating to the Preserve area.

We are quite happy at RCV (live on Russett Terrace). The houses were a bit more affordable here than in Flower Valley when we bought last year. Also, I feel like we are a bit closer to metro (Twinbrook) than we would have been across Norbeck in Flower Valley, if that's a consideration.

The schools seem great and the housing affordable, but I hear that some areas of Aspen Hill should be avoided and I understand this part of Rockville either is a part of or borders Aspen Hill. If I were to look to buy housing in this area, what are the boundaries of the good vs. not-so-good areas?

Also, do families generally move away once the kids are high school aged or is Rockville High considered solid? I've heard mixed reviews.

Flint Rock Road
Castaway Drive
Drake Drive
Shippers Lane
Rim Rock Road
Dowlais Drive

All of these are wonderful Streets near RCV, among others in the neighborhood. The development is Bel Pre Woods. I grew up there and it is still very nice.

We also don't yet have school-aged kids, but all the neighbors speak highly of Rock Creek Valley and seem happy with Woods too.

My child is starting RCV in the fall. I can't speak from personal experience yet, but I've heard nothing but good things, including "the principal is wonderful" over and over from different parents.

Both are really good schools. 20853 also feeds into Barnsley Elem school which is also a good school.

Hello Moms and Dads,

We are looking to relocate to 20853 zipcode. Is Flower Valley better than Rock Creek Valley or vice versa?

is Woods middle school a good school?

Any help is appreciated.
