OP here. No, I didn't get that specific job but now I am up for another one in the same place. The advice I received is take the MARC train from Bowie state and then the shuttle from penn station. I would guess that it would take an hour door to door. Half hour on the Marc train, give 20 minutes for the hopkins shuttle and 5 minutes to get to the marc train. I guess that's not too bad right?

I took the MARC from union station to go to school in E Balt. The shuttle from Penn Station added about 20 minutes or so to the commute. I liked the train because I could study or read. Driving would definitely be faster, especially if you could park on campus.

OP:

Did you take the job?

I live in Bowie (off 197) and considering applying for some jobs at JHU but curious/concerned about the commute too.

Thanks, guys.
I live closer to 295 than 97..I'd have to go through Crofton to get to 97 and I don't want to deal with all of the lights. I went to the campus with no traffic the other day on 295 and it was 45 minutes each way. I think the MARC train plus shuttle option might take the same amount of time, if not a bit more. Although reading on the train is more appealing to me than focusing on the traffic. Anyway, I thought there might be a shortcut into East Baltimore that I didn't know about...

Are you close to 97? If so, you can take that instead of 95.

I commute to a Hopkins building downtown in Baltimore. If you drive you do have to go through downtown, or at least that is the fastest. There are other ways in when one route is backed up. I commute from Laurel, and from my house it takes 35 minutes with no traffic. It would take another 5-7 to the medical campus. The big unknown for the commute is traffic on 395. It can take no time at all or 40 minutes...you just can't predict. The MARC is a nice option but all in all it takes longer than driving, but good to reduce stress. You'll need to take a shuttle to the medical campus, though, and I don't know when those run.
