OP here. At the Silver Spring WH, this is not mandatory. I choose to do it because it is a convenience/time-saver for me - there is nowhere to return your cart in the SS parking lot, so once you've put the bags in the car, you have to walk the cart all the way back to the store (unless - rarely- there is someone in the lot to take your cart for you). Someone waits with your cart curbside, you pull up, and then they load the bags in. I think it probably saves me about 10 min (because you don't have to walk back and forth returning the cart, and also you are now positioned in the exit driveway - not stuck in what is sometimes a jammed up parking lot).

I'm not aware of any WH tip policy (like Moms). Each time I've done this (they just started offering this consistently recently) the helpers have been extremely friendly/courteous and insist on loading in the bags (whereas I could do this part myself).

In that situation, I'd usually tip $2 or so and usually had about 2 bags.

I normally would tip, but wrt the wf in glover park, I do not, bc they force you to use the trolley system. You are not allowed to take your bags in carts down to the car. No way I am tipping if the system is mandatory.

I have had help loading in my car when I buy big cases of bottles, but have never thought to tip.

I sometimes get help out to the car if I have both my kids and the only spot we could get was far from the store, and I need help returning the cart. I have never tipped, though now I'm feeling like I should and feel like kind of a jerk!

The reason I don't tip is that I push the cart (both my kids are in it so I feel safer pushing it ), and I unload the groceries and get my kids out. I'm just using the help to get the cart back to the store so that I don't have to carry two kids all the way back to the car. Tipping $3 on $100 worth of groceries when I've usually bagged them myself AND done most of the work to get them to and into the car doesn't seem necessary. I also just don't remember when I have two screaming kids and am trying to load them into the car while they meltdown. I will say, I much prefer shopping at MOMs, part of which is because they always carry your bags to the car for you and will not accept tips for the service.

Anyway, interested to hear what others say.

I shop at WH in Silver Spring, and they've recently started (consistently) to ask whether you need help. Since I shop for the whole week for a family of 5, I always spent >300 bucks and have a ton of stuff. So I gratefully accept curbside pick-up when offered. Last time I tipped $3 to the guy who waited with my cart and loaded in the stuff.

Do you tip at WH curbside? How much?
