I can't speak to this unfortunately, because when we signed up several years ago there was no waitlist. I hope they can give you some information on how long the list is.

I happen to know someone selling their house in Kensington and throwing in a pool membership with the sale if you are interested...

I am not sure if there is a "Kensington" side or "Wheaton" side. It is one big community so the big difference is the school you are zoned for. PP is correct - most neighbors hang out at the pool and there is a community feel.

Oakland Terrace is wonderful (from first hand experience) and I don't know enough about the other elementary to comment.

As for Einstein - I was first scared of it based on older posts from this listserv but as time goes on, I know so many people who have kids there and love it. They have a great IB program and we intend to stick around as do all of the other families we know.

Is there any difference, items of neighborhood feel, between the side closer to ToK and the side closer to Wheaton?

PP, thanks for the suggestion, but we don't need a very large house and we both work in downtown DC and lonely would be too far away. Thanks anyway.

Seems like a lot of our neighbors priced out of a larger silver spring home look toward olney for larger house.

I think the high school for that area of Kensington is Albert Einstein. How you feel about that school will vary considerably, but it has more in common with the schools in Silver Spring than those in Bethesda, such as BCC or WJ.

We've been looking at the Kensington area. We're looking to relocate from SS as we need more space. We have a two year old daughter. We've heard great things about The WJ cluster, but it seems like houses in that area are out of our price range (up to $500k). We've been looking now at the Kensington heights area and I'd like to know what people have to say about the neighborhood, we're looking for a friendly neighborhood and of course, good schools. Some people have told me that KH is basically Wheaton. Any advice?
