I like Larry's Homemade Ice Cream in Clarendon and Toby's in Westover. (both Arlington.)

Okay, so you didn't ask for BETWEEN Baltimore and NOVA, but the Double Dipper in Laurel (only about a mile off Rt 95) has an old fashioned ice cream shop feel, does the banana split, etc. and serves Hershey's, which is pretty good.

Do you mean you want great tasting, homemade ice cream, or do you want a place that does the fancy dishes, i.e., banana splits and has an old-fashioned atmosphere? There are plenty of places that have great tasting ice cream, but won't have that atmosphere. And there are ice-cream shops that have that old time "feel," but are serving Hershey's ice cream.

I like Milwaukee Frozen Custard. The Chantilly location has a train that runs on a track around the top of the room.

The best place in Baltimore is Vaccaro's in Little Italy. The homemade Gelato is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and alot yourself time to go in, browse, select a wonderful dessert, slow down to enjoy and possibly have a second.

In our group of friends, every several years, we take a group up there some night on a Monday night where there is AYCE dessert for $15.50 per person. We have a light dinner and then head up there planning to spend a couple of hours and enjoy all sorts of treats. Soooooo worth it.

The only old-fashioned ice cream places I know are in New York or New England. There's a place in NoVa called the Dairy Godmother but haven't been there. Maybe try using Yelp?

We are at port discovery ATM and I would like to have some ice cream after, but I want to sit down somewhere and have a Sunday, or banana split, or float.... Some "old fashioned" type of ice cream, and I say old fashioned because I never see those anymore.

Someplace in Nova would work too.

Suggestions?
