I would sit her down and say, "You know that I saw the three checks from our homeowner's insurance. I do not remember our making any claim, and you have denied all knowledge, too. Therefore, I have no choice but to contact our insurer and ask for a full accounting of this claim. That will undoubtedly raise questions with them, and I fully expect an investigation. If you have memory of this claim or anything else to say, I suggest you tell me right now. The consequences of not telling me the whole truth would be devastating to our marriage as well as your reputation."

Well, if the insurance company investigates they will also look at you and what you knew, even though you reported her (i.e. from their perspective, how do they know you're not just being vindictive). You'll also probably have to repay the money and hire a lawyer.

Why would you not contact the insurance company to inquire about it? I think that is what any capable person would do in your situation.

Well, if you're wife is commiting insurance fraud, she'll probably go to prison. You'll also have to spend a small fortune on lawyers.

Yes. She does not tell me the truth about many things, only to be found out later and then continue to lie. Forcible separation?

That's not putting money away, but if the OP is right, my guess is a forcible separation isn't far away.

So, I am reviewing insurance records this morning and come across three canceled checks from our homeowner's insurance policy totaling $10K. I ask DW what she knows about them, since I do not recall our never making a claim. She says, rather unconvincingly, that she doesn't know what I am talking about. WWYD?
