What summer studies does your DD have that a job would detract from them? Or do you mean a part time job during school? When I was 14 I was babysitting and at 16 I was working retail part time during the school year and full time in summer. What about babysitting?

I was a lifeguard/swim coach and my daughter was a lifeguard too starting at age 15. In the DC area, you can take lifeguard training in one weekend now so it's a great career starter. My daughter did stop being a lifeguard when she had to do her sport at the club level (rowing) all summer. It was worth it since she was recruited to row at an Ivy.

Worked summers from age 11 on. Had a newspaper route in Junior and Senior years, year round.

I would prefer my son only work summers. I expect him to do something engaging. May or may not be a paid job.

I worked in retail part time, babysat and was a lifeguard. I expect my DDs to work, but not as much as I dd.

So, how many of you had a part-time summer/job as a teen?.if so, do you also expect your teen to work? My DD actually says she wants a part-time job. But Mom is opposed as she believes it would detract from studies. Right now, I've told DD she should look to work in the summer and shoulder also xpect to work to pay for part of her college. I started to work at 16 and held part-time Jonas all through college and grad school.

I applaud my DD's initiative snd think a part-time job will boost her confidence snd self esteem.
