Swat is a great school but for a very small subset of students. It is a love/hate place.

However one thing that is very disconcerting to me (a sibling is a recent alum) is there seems to be a spike in sexual assaults this past year or two.

I don't know what's driving that but swat would seem the last school where i would expect that to occur (an increase of that sort of behavior).

Another thing to note, if your child wants to go into the work force directly from undergrad, Williams/Amherst are much better options. Swat's Career Services sucks and its ties to industry are very poor compared to Williams.

Swat has way more minorities and markedly less privileged feel virtually any of its peers or the NESCAC schools.

Well, perhaps besides Pomona, but the dynamics out west are completely different it is useless comparing schools from out there to northeast/mid-atlantic schools when it comes to race or privilege.

i think PP meant liberal in a different way than what liberal refers to in LAC.

Williams is the polar opposite of Swat.

Uh, Swarthmore is a liberal arts college - this is par for the course! And I am glad to see students taking a renewed interest in the environment. We really need it.

Anyway, swarthmore is an excellent school. Feel free to send your dc to Ave Maria college instead, though.

Aside from the recent controversies, Swarthmore has a lot of good things going for it. Extraordinary education in terms of quality; very smart and thoughtful leadership (I have worked with the president and one of the vice presidents); beautiful campus and, because it is so small, lots of direct interaction with faculty and interesting academic programs/opportunities.

Well, the heck with how you pronounce it...seems like a place I wouldn't want my kids attending...whether in the "know" or not.

Maybe Swarthmore could book someone like the Billy Joel, generally non-controversial entertainer who can tell some life stories/lessons?

Anyone have any thoughts about Swathmore? At one point we were considering this place but we've been hearing alot lately about the place. The below posts recently came out. Shocking to hear to studnets take over a board meeting. We thought that was all over in 60s...!
