This is similar to what we do. DS is 12 months now and cries when we pick him up because he doesn't want to leave! Many home daycare providers are licensed, have early childhood education degrees, and use a curriculum of activities for toddlers (DS observes/participates as able when he --i.e., listening and "dancing" while they sing, and drawing with assistance).
