I've been working part time for 5 years and it so hard to find a good long-term, part-time provider. But, once you find someone it will be worth it. We managed to have one person for 3 years until my work schedule changed and she couldn't accommodate it. Part time options are out there, I think you're making the right choice to stick with it (if the work is good in other ways) even though changing arrangements is SO stressful (and so much work).

This is similar to what we do. DS is 12 months now and cries when we pick him up because he doesn't want to leave! Many home daycare providers are licensed, have early childhood education degrees, and use a curriculum of activities for toddlers (DS observes/participates as able when he --i.e., listening and "dancing" while they sing, and drawing with assistance).

True. This is why we have an au pair. We only need 25 hours a week, but it's an two hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon. Impossible to find anyone reliable and responsible for thos hours.

I contemplated a nanny but ultimately went with an in-home provider. I wanted the exposure to other children, but in a smaller environment. Also, no hassle when it comes to taxes. Now the problem arises that when she wants to take time off and I need backup care, what do I do? Minor vs switching nannies 3 times in 6 mos.

OP, I'm with you. And I got myself through my thinking it would be over when Kindergarten started, but forgot about before/after care vs. babysitter vs. au pair vs. whatever for covering the before and after times. It sucks. I agree.

We changed child care with our first three times in the first two years - and even had to move to find better day care. But truly, once you find the right place, you feel so much better. Hang in there.

OP here. Thanks. It just sucks. Maybe I'll look into in-home options.

Part-time nannies are one of the hardest to find. Most of the really good nannies are FT. We also had PT nannies, and we had to switch over and over. It was extremely hard on our jobs.

For various reasons (out of our control), we are looking at switching up our childcare provider for the third time since I went back to work 8 months ago (all nannies). I hate that this keeps happening. It is so stressful to find someone good, and stressful for my DD to get used to someone. I love my job (I'm part time) but I just feel like I can't keep doing this over and over again.
