Trainer. Started a kettlebell class in March. Down 5% points body fat (was over 30 to begin with) in 8 weeks. Good luck!

Weight trainer for sure. Or see if there's a CrossFit gym near you. You'll get a PT, weight workout/whole body and cardio, too.

I work out with a trainer 2xs a week and he makes me a program for the day that I'm alone (I run pretty much all the other days). I've had trainers and the key is they are worth it if they are good. What makes mine good?

-He is always ontime
-He always has a plan
-He has very little interest in talking and is focused
-He pushes me to do things and to a level of muscle failure I never thought I could do, as a result I have seen dramatic results in only 4 weeks.
-He gives me my routine for my day alone
-He is also very fit, so he lives by his advice. My gym has a host of trainers that are out of shape.

It is a 2-way street. I will not lose any weight if I don't work hard and eat well. I also will not do well if I don't do my cardio on my own and my extra day of weights. I'm at the point where I'm trying to take it to the next level and going from slim to very toned with visible muscle when at rest. He can only give me the map, I have to follow it and that is what is very hard.

I think the weights are more important, personally.

I'm 5'7 and weigh 150, would like to be 140 and overall more fit and lean. I'm 38, 2 kids.

I was on a pretty good workout tear after the first of the year but sprained an ankle and am now revving up again. Ideally I do cardio tennis twice a week, run once a week, do XBox Kinect fitness twice a week (30-45 minutes) and go the gym in my building twice a week (don't have time for a lot there, usually 30 minutes of cardio and some minor weight lifting). So I'm getting some cardio every day of the week ideally, even if a couple days it's only 30 minutes.

I've been thinking about adding pilates to my routine and going to Georgetown Pilates twice a week, but then reconsidered and thought maybe I should instead invest in a personal trainer and get some hard core weights going. Right now there is some toning elements of the Kinect fitness I do and I could also do more at my work gym.

What do you think is more important? Please don't say both because I can't afford both either in dollar terms or time terms!!
