You could try private K, if you sense your child is mature and will be bored, then transfer in?
So not true--this is basically a rumor on these boards, as "overcrowding" is blamed for everything from denied COSAs to lack of available French classes. There is an EEK test for academic knowledge and a social/maturity observation, and if the kid passes, he or she is in. I teach kindergarten in MCPS at a school with several portables and an exploding K enrollment. We had four students apply for EEK at orientation this year, and one was accepted.
But, OP, if your child is past the cut-off date, she cannot take the test, nor can she transfer in later on once the school year has started. My DS's birthday is October 20, but they're both just going to have to wait a year. There are worse things.
