PP here: I think I'm using the correct terms- google the different blood tests (qualifying v quantifying)

My OB/GYN office doesn't even have an ultrasound machine. Make sure you ask for a quantifying HCG test where they actually give you the numbers. My office will just routinely send the blood work off and the lab will give them a yes/no answer based on whatever their criterion is (usually 50 miu).

I second what the PP says and would push to get an u/s if you are concerned. Not to be discouraging, but in your place, I'd double check for an ectopic. Hopefully won't be the case for you, but it's something you want to catch early. Like the PP said, with the early u/s they can at least check that the sac is in the right place.

The earliest u/s I had was 5w4d. All that can be seen at that point is a sac, maybe a fetal pole. If they do one, it would be mostly to see if there is something inside your uterus.

You can have one at six weeks. I did. Definitely saw a beating heart. A lot of folks dealing with infertility get an u/s at 6 wks with their fertility doc. It's typically the last appt with the RE before seeing an OB/GYN.

OP back ... for any PPs/NPs, could you advise, if I go for the blood testing, do they also automatically take an ultrasound, or is it truly just a blood test at this early stage? I ask because on my first time (last year), I wasn't able to get an early appointment (sadly), so I don't know what would have been the norm at that time. Thanks for any input.

PP--just realized that you posted yesterday. Take an HPT today (Wed).

Take another test tomorrow morning. If it's positive again, make an appt for a blood draw.

Bleeding happens with viable pregnancies too. Everything I've read says bleeding during pregnancy has a 50% chance of going either way.

I would ask the OB for hcg testing.

Hi all, I was going to write in the "implantation bleeding" thread, but I think my question is a bit different. I recently got what seemed like my period, and assumed it was/is. The odd thing was, my BBT didn't drop as expected (one day it dropped, but then remained higher). I'm now about 16 DPO, and on a whim took a digital HPT, and was very surprised to see a positive. SO, while I hope for good news, because the bleeding came when my usual flow should have, perhaps this is just a chemical pregnancy? I had a loss lost year (beyond 11 weeks), but for that pregnancy I had no bleeding leading up to the positive HPT. Thanks for any insight from your own experiences.
