My husband's job has 6 weeks of vacation... not unlimited, but seems like a lot to me. Anyways, he never has the opportunity to take any of it because of this responsibilities. Basically it sounds good on paper, but I doubt you can actually take it.

My former company had unlimited vacation. If your supervisor approved it, you could go. People didn't really abuse it for the most part.

Become a tenured university professor and you have 4 months off (3 months summer and 1 month winter breaks) each year. In addition, if you want, you can come to school only when you have teaching assignments (usually 2 days a week).
It's the closest unlimited vacation I can think of.

LOL!

They offer neither unlimited vacation nor 60 to 70 days of leave per year.

Neither, and honestly from what I see those guys all work pretty hard.

I once worked for an investment bank and we had unlimited vacation (actually, they didn't even call it vacation, it was called PTO - paid time off). We also got free breakfast, catered lunch, and free dinner if you were working late (which was at least 5, and often 7 nights a week). Of course, we were working at least 80, sometimes more like 100 hours a weeks, so most of us weren't even thinking vacation. I worked there for 3 years and I probably took no more than 3 weeks off total during that time (and at least a half of that time was for Jewish holidays, so almost no "real" vacation).

I worked in one place where we had unlimited vacation. You took what you could and still meet your performance targets. Interestingly once we switched to a more formal vacation policy people ended up taking more vacation because we felt like it was part of the package and you knew how many days you had "earned". People got into a mindset of wanting to use all their vacation days. When we had unlimited days that didn't happen.

Also, you don't get paid out for any vacation when you leave. Most places with unlimited vacations like big firms are places where you generally can't take that much time off.

I was reading an article on WTOP about the best places to work in DC and a few offer unlimited vacation. Do you just take unpaid days after you use what the company pays? How does it work? Is there any benefit to the company?
