For that age, the primary option around here is Little League. They have fall and spring seasons, so summer is out. Many travel teams play in the summer but they are more competitive and their rosters are usually full by this point.

Virginia Baseball Club offers baseball camps throughout the summer and my 9 yo DS has had a lot of fun at them. You can check them out online to see availabilty.

I agree with a PP. We just play a lot of catch and soft toss throughout the summer. It saves his arm and our schedules!

To paraphrase Tony Gwynn -- too much of youth baseball is spent on games. Just practice. If you can't find a team, go old school. Soft-toss and tee for hitting. Ground balls and pop-ups for defense. He will be better in the next year and you never know. And it will be time well spent regardless of outcome.

9 year olds don't get drafted. See what happens.

You might be surprised.

Trying one more time in case this got buried before anyone saw it!
Does anyone know of any leagues for a 9 year old boy to play baseball over the summer in the McLean area?
I'm looking for a recreational league, not ultra-competitive. He loves baseball, and he's reasonable, but definitely not good enough to get on a competitive, try-out only team.
Thanks!
