My husband came to all of them with our first, and all so far with our second (had a 16 week appointment today). He considered not coming today, but wanted to hear the heartbeat. It's something we both enjoy, though it's possible he may not come as often when they increase in frequency, only because his work is considerably busier than it was last time.

But I definitely wanted him there at the early ones for sure, and all ultrasounds.

Same here. Hubby's schedule is flexible and its close to his work. Plus he is really involved since its our first and he has questions too.

I liked having him there for the ultrasounds at 6w, 8 weeks and NT ultrasound and the first appointment where they take your family history. He doesn't come to routine OB appointments. God forbid you hear anything difficult at an ultrasound or test result -- but you'd want him there.

DH came to the first and all the US (except the last one, which was an unplanned amnio fluid check- I wanted him to be ready to take care of things at home and then head to the hospital with the bag in case of emergency induction). Honestly, I'd rather he saved his leave for afterwards, but I always immediately share details after each appt.

My husband came to the first one (the long appointment - although I kicked him out for the pelvic exam), the second one (the first time we heard the heartbeat) and a couple of the ultrasounds. For us, it just hasn't seemed worth it for him to take the time off of work, since he works in the city and my OB is in Fairfax and like PP mentioned, the routine appointments are mostly pretty dull.

If he's ambivalent about coming, maybe he could skip the first appointment and come to the next one where he'll likely be able to hear the heartbeat? If I remember correctly, you can't hear the heartbeat on Doppler until closer to 10 or 11 weeks, although you can see it on U/S earlier than that.

My husband has been to all of them. He has questions too and it's great for him to be involved. He loves it and us usually excited about it.

My husband went to all of them, but only because his work schedule allowed it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have really thought it was necessary. But he wanted to come. DH had just too much "fun" with the whole pregnancy/birth process. After awhile it freaked me out.

My husband came to the u/s appts and the first one where the ob reviewed all the tests, etc. He would He have come to all if I'd asked, but the ones in the middle were pretty short and boring so I told him not to bother. He really liked the u/s and had lots of questions.

First time around he come to every single one. This time our work schedules have changed, so he'll probably just come to the ultrasounds, or anything unusual.

My husband came to the ultrasound ones, which I thought were more special than just the regular 15 minute check-ups. I didn't really see a need to drag him away from work for what is essentially just a blood pressure check and urine test.

Mine comes when they are important. The first one involved lots of questions for both of us and a confirmation ultrasound. Another time, it was an emergency visit. NT scan also involved questions for both of us. Now, I don't need him there u less there is an ultrasound he wouldn't want to miss. Later on, I'll have him come to learn about a plan and meet the other docs.

For me, the first few were important in case there were any problems. I would want him there in case. He doesn't attend now because saving leave is more important.

I know a lot of husbands who could have attended, but didn't. I always think less of them.

Why is he ambivalent?

My husband has been committed to coming to as many as he could. A scheduling mistake kept him from coming to the NT scan but other than that he has always come along. I was kind of ambivalent because I didnt want him to necessarily see my weight or hear every conversation with the doctor about pregnancy symptoms, but it has been fine.

Do most of you bring your partner along to your prenatal visits? My first is in two weeks and he's fairly ambivalent about it. I'm scheduled for an ultrasound and I'll be 7 weeks so I suppose we might hear the heartbeat, which could be cool for him. I'm with the GW midwives if that makes a difference.
