I'm with 12:53. While Paleo has worked for some of my friends, it hasn't worked for everyone I know who tried it. Personally I find it restrictive. Whenever I'm trying to lose a few pounds and tighten up, I try to eat cleaner. Cut back on alcohol, added sugar, processed foods, white grains and fried foods. I do a lot of cardio, so I'm all about the healthy whole grains, the steamed veggies, the lean meats, a little fat here and there, etc.
Also, whenever I'm trying to lose a few pounds, I keep a close eye on my calorie intake. I might still eat a piece of cake or have too many glasses of wine, but I hold myself accountable for that.
