Yes, it is looking like a minimum of 20. Hopefully they will get their act together and announce the days and plan very soon so it can go into effect in October, as opposed to talking about it forever and squeezing all the days into calendar year 2014.

Do you anticipate the appropriation to have an upward or downward departure vice this year? Well then there's your answer vis a vis scuttlebutt.

True, although the chances of having an enacted appropriation for FY14 as of October 1 seem very slim. Based on past history, it is reasonable to expect that we will be operating under another CR for at least several months.

This doesn't make sense to me-- how do furloughs triggers RIFs?

There is a limit to how many furlough days can be imposed. If funds are so low that an agency cannot make up the difference within the limited number of furlough days, then it must use RIFs instead.

THe budget sucks but scuttlebutt at this point is so completely uninformed and fact-free as to be next to worthless.

DOJ is lucky it's dodging the bullet this year but no one has a clue what the reality of next yr. will be. Prepare for the worst.

I thought they did furlough to alleviate or not have to go as drastic as reduction in force

Scuttlebutt from what kind of source and what component?

The AG was very clear in his memo that they were accessing many one-time funding sources (e.g. previous year's money) to avert furloughs this summer and that all bets were off for next fiscal year.

Sorry to bring this up yet again, but why the heck no days this year and that many next year? Unless this again is an empty threat....
