I just received an answer from Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries about public hearings on the new school boundaries: "With the transition in leadership and a larger range of issues, we are running behind our preferred dates for hearings. No dates have been set yet but I will ensure you are advised and that the dates are well published."

So nothing definitive, but it sounds like the usual mid-October date for hearings is unlikely.

Thanks for the information. At least I can put that on the back burner for now.

The last few years, the public forums about boundary changes happened in mid-October. I haven't seen any notices go out yet for meetings about the new school.

Has anyone heard anything about the boundary discussions for the new school. I heard they will take place in the Fall.

Hee, hee. Pg county needs a multi-cultural freakout on education day.

I wouldn't count on it. They tried to zone out part of UP proper once before.

And when that happens? Watch out. Commence full on white people freak out.

We'd be very happy to have more African Americans join us in our freak out. PG county schools need many more parents willing to fight for what our kids need, in my opionion.

Avondale was previously zoned for Chillum ES; according to my neighbors.

9:12 PP, if you live in Avondale, I wouldn't be surprised if you were redistricted to Chillum. From what I understand, buses from Avondale drive past Chillum ES on their way to Cesar Chavez.

I really wish the new school was an option for my neighborhood, Avondale. We are zoned for Chavez.

I think it would be a mistake for your friends to buy a house based on any particular school zone -- the county changes boundaries so often.

There is very little definite at this time. Last I heard is that it opens fall 2014, but zoning is completely up on the air.

Can anyone clarify the current status of the new Hyattsville elementary school? They are not planning to open it in the fall but rather in 2014, is that right? And are they zoning kids away from UPES, Hyattsville, and Lewisdale schools + putting a TAG center or is it just rezoning for overcrowding and the TAG piece was just speculation because the bus ride to Glenarden Woods is so long? A friend is looking to buy in the area and I don't want to steer them totally wrong on the school options. I don't think the new school directly effects my family unless they rezoned us out of Glenarden Woods to TAG at the new school so I haven't paid attention and now I can't find much info on it online and what I do find is conflicting.
