Hi, OP here. Thanks so much for all your responses! I am in the Tysons area. We've been in NoVA about 2 years now. Thanks for the VHC recommendation, I will look into that. I'm still in my first trimester, and still getting used to all the changes of pregnancy. It's a little sad for me not to have any family here to share in the excitement, though. DH won't be able to go to many of my doctor's appts. because of work and I don't really have any good friends here who could go with me, and I don't have any friends/acquaintances with kids.

OP, I'm in nova too...FTM, 35, due in November. I go to Mind the Mat pre natal Pilates on tues and thurs. but to be honest, the girls are all pretty quiet and go right in their merry way after class - not much bonding or even talking much about the pregnancies like I would have liked. I am in a similar situation. My husband and my families are in pa, our friends are in Philly and we are here for his job (govt). We live in the clatenfon area. Where are you?

Yeah, northern virginia is a pretty big place. If you are more specific, then people can suggest local moms groups or neighborhood listservs.

Hi, OP here. Thanks for your responses. I don't think my neighborhood has a parent listserv, but I have no idea really. I'm in NoVA. I will look into pre-natal yoga. Yes, I am a first time mother. I look forward to taking birth classes because I think that will be very helpful for me and DH being first-time parents.

I go twice a week to two different studios. I'm sure some practice at home, but I don't.
Each class is about 90 minutes long when all is said and done.

Not OP but similar question. How often are the prenatal yoga classes typically? Do you then practice at home other days?

How does one find listservs, I am in VA.

OP, is this your first? Typically it gets easier to meet other moms when you have a little one...at parks or you can join meetups for play dates.

Do you have a neighborhood parents listserv? Someone on my neighborhood listserv started a thread about having expecting moms in the neighborhood get together, which we eventually did. There were just 4 of us, but it was fun to meet people nearby and there is the potential of having a playgroup once the babies come this summer since we'll have overlapping maternity leaves.

As for prenatal yoga, go for it, but I think your experience will depend on the studio. The one where I go isn't so talkative so I haven't really met anyone there.

It is definitely not too early for yoga! I started at 11 weeks, I think...and I could have started earlier but I had limits on physical activity because I was a fertility patient.

I highly recommend Yoga District's prenatal class with Brittney because she starts every class with everyone introducing themselves. The women are very nice and not stuffy. I can't say the same for Tranquil Space where women get in, get out, and no one really talks.

Definitely give it a try! It'll make it easier on you the bigger you get, too, if you start early. I'm glad I didn't wait.

Congratulations!

It's not too early for prenatal yoga! You'll see lots of women who aren't showing yet at those classes (at least I did at Tranquil Space, and I started going at the end of my first tri).

If youre planning to breastfeed, you could also try the support group at the Breastfeeding Center on K Street at 11:30 on Tuesdays. They welcome pregnant women.

Your childbirth classes will also help. Otherwise, it's a little early for any kind of organized thing.

We did a six-week long labor and delivery class, and met a few couples we really liked there. You can take those classes in one day or a weekend as well, but it seemed like the people who took the longer class, like us, wanted to meet others as well.

Plus once baby arrives it becomes alot easier to meet and bond with other new moms.

Congratulations on expecting! It may help if you list what general area that you are in so that people may offer suggestions.

Hi, I'm new to the area, and just found out I am pregnant. I am AMA and would like to start meeting some other expecting moms. We have no family in the area and don't know that many people yet, and all of my acquintances/friends in the area are childfree, so I really don't have a whole lot of emotional support here, and no real circle of friends yet. I'd love to hear some ideas of how/where to meet other expecting moms. I'm just in the first trimester, so it's probably too early for something like pre-natal yoga, etc. Thanks!
