That's why I signed my kids up for gymnastics classes, where they can use them in a controlled environment to learn skills safely and correctly, and where the instructors drill in important rules, particularly the one about one person on a trampoline at a time.
Backyard trampolines are asking for trouble. Kids bounce unsupervised and do skills they shouldn't do. Or they bounce multiple kids at a time, which is so incredibly dangerous.
And you know this because? We have had a trampoline in our backyard since my oldest was about 4 or so. She is almost 14. The 3 yo loves jumping on it.
I have rules.
They dont jump unless supervised, they dont try crazy tricks, and they only go on one at a time. I dont allow neighborhood kids to come in and use it (even though the kids across the street bugged the heck out of my older one about coming in the back yard and I firmly said nope, sorry). When we first got it, my bff's kids (teens) wanted to give it a try and I said only if your mom is willing to come up and watch and take responsibility. They did a couple times, with mom right there with them, novelty wore off and they never came back.
It has worked out well.
