There is no federal government wide hiring freeze. Some agencies are hiring. Some aren't.

Thanks, that is helpful. I am really only (specifically) interested in a small agency that is not hiring much at all at the moment, but when I checked in on them again this morning I saw a bunch of other postings that made me curious.

I have to put together a "federal resume" still, since I didn't even know what one was until a few months ago (never worked in govt/ contracting)

P.S. short answer is that if it's a new posting then I would apply (but some old postings may never get filled)

Most places have budget problems but not a formal hiring freeze. For example, at my agency I think there have to be 3 vacancies through attrition before we can hire a replacement. Some agencies may operate on user fees and are required to keep up with providing services to those users so they may not be as affected by the budget crunch.

Why are there so many new postings to USA jobs? Are these required postings for positions that people are being promoted into or something? Are they worth applying for? How are there new positions opening amid the cuts and all I hear in places like this about the "hiring freeze"?

Wondering if I should bother wasting my time, basically.
