Because my DC currently attends private school, but DC would like to attend TJ because that is where her/his interests lie.

I think kids intially found eligible for CTY may be a dime a dozen (although that is an exaggeration), but the number who actually participate in the program by taking courses is much smaller.

Another stroke of brilliance. VA middle school students are too dumb to compete in CTY or DUKE-TIP talent search requiring taking SAT or ACT tests in middle school (7th and 8th grades). Poster must come from West Virginia.

OP here, so true this area does have so many gifted/talented children!

In part that is why I am having my 7th grader take the SAT. Last year, only a limited number of children nationwide (<100) scored high enough on the SAT during their 7th grade year to make the cut for this particular subset of the GT program. I am trying to determine whether my DC could be one of those 100 this year, based on what I know about DC's recent performance on the SCAT (as normed against 12th graders).

That information may help some FFC parents in deciding whether to put their DC through the rigors of sitting for an SAT exam, by giving them a basis on which to evaluate their DC's chances. Also, as a Latina mom I would like to help my DC as much as I can.

Can anyone offer advice on the correlation between your child's performance on the SCAT exam and the SAT, particularly in terms of where a child might fall in terms of percentiles.

My 7th grader recently took the SCAT exam, which was normed against 12th graders and is a short, one-hour exam. DC will take the SAT this month, and I was wondering whether a high score on one exam correlates with a similarly high score on the other (especially since the SAT is a much longer exam).
