Yeah, I'm almost 3 months and I'm not really ready for all of the baby stuff yet because it's still so early. I am just in the get me out of the 1st trimester phase - when am I going to get energy??? You can't do massages and such in the first tri so a pre-natal massage sounds really really good to me right now for 2nd tri territory. Your friend will love that you thought of her and whatever you decide to do!

I agree with the PPs about it being something for her in pregnancy, not for the baby at this point.
Earth mama products are great. Also bio oil.

My best friend gave me some nice gifts, but the one I remember most was a huge bag of all the "cocktail" flavored jelly belly jelly beans (margarita, daquiri, etc.).

She also gave me some nice pregnancy friendly personal care products, but really, I remember those jelly beans.

A really good baby carrier; we love our Boba. It can be used from newborn through toddlerhood, and is such a huge help.

After the baby comes and is a few months old, set her up with babysitting and take her to the spa, brunch, just something nice for her. Everyone fawns over you when you're pregnant, and then the baby arrives and it's like your needs go out the window. One of my most thoughtful friends treated me to a mani/pedi when my daughter was about five months old, and it was awesome.

I'm not sure about early in pregnancy, but I got my close girl friend an afternoon at the spa at around 8 months - prenatal massage, pedicure, manicure. She NEVER would have treated herself to this, and she was so happy to have the time away from being the pregnant lady and just relax.

Personal care products that are baby friendly like PP mentioned (Earth Mama) would be nice, too. I also agree that I wouldn't have been comfortable getting gifts at 3 months, but that's a personal preference.

If she's only three months pregnant, another approach could be to get her something for her for during pregnancy and/or to help with planning for baby. Gifts/items I loved included: a copy of the most recent "Baby Bargains;" a sampler set of Earth Mama Angel Baby lotions/belly butter/etc.; Biggs and Featherbelle Belly Butter (LOVE this stuff!); a pedicure or prenatal massage; soothing music to listen to with baby and/or for meditation.

A friend of mine who loves to cook and is a food blogger has offered to come and spend a day cooking with me (when I'm about 34 weeks pregnant) to fully stock the freezer with food for post-baby. That is a pretty awesome "gift" that I'm really excited about, too!

As early in pregnancy as your friend (3 months), I wouldn't have been comfortable getting a gift that was actually for the baby/postpartum period, but everyone's different. Just some additional thoughts if you want to take a different approach.

This would've been perfect for me too. I was petrified of havin to change the baby in public.

She gave me a safe environment where I wouldn't panic if the baby cried, if I took a long time to put the baby in the car, if I had to change the baby while we were out. So her gift to me was the confidence I needed to go out with my new baby.

Most of the baby stuff only gets used for a year at most. Our stroller is the only thing we still use at 2.5.

My brest friend, a sound machine, swaddles. For her nursing pajamas or just really nice fancy pjs, I love the sexy Elle Mcpherson nursing bra and undie sets (but you need her size closer to the birth), night bras if she is big busted, nursing type clothing like wrap sweaters.

Also, offer to go grocery shopping post baby, especially after her parents leave town. I thin many moms are their most vulnerable after their moms leave town. I was certainlly sad.
