Always been a fan of College Gardens Elementary in Rockville. Lovely area too.

Going to kindergarten next year as in 2013-2014? If so, your dx is already on the young side. Don't worry about grade skipping!

We've been happy at College Gardens. Fantastic principal, incredible teachers

MCPS has some flexibility around the edges, but I would be pretty surprised to hear that there are differences among schools on things like that.

Within MCPS, I would think (but don't know for a fact) that the same policy of no grade-skipping would apply to all elementary schools.

The only exceptions I know of are early entrance to kindergarten and early entrance to first grade

but the child's birthday has to be between September 2 and October 15.

Lakewood ES is fantastic! DD is thriving and the teachers (so far) have been great. The neighborhoods are also great- we feed into Wootton HS.

Maybe he needs acceleration and maybe he needs repeating. No one can predict. I personally prefer a relatively more flexible environment that caters to individual needs.

Why are you even contemplating that with a kid that is 4 years old. Sounds like you are destined to "f" up your kid....

OP here. The work is in Rockville area, kind of in the middle of MoCo. Commute is not a big concern to us. We are looking for places under 800,000. We are also OK with condos or ths. I saw some posts talking about school initiated grade skipping. To me, it is a signal indicating how school recognizes learning differences. I would like to know this type of schools.

What first-hand information do you base this on, PP?

OP, I agree with the PP who said that other things -- like price range and nearness to stuff like work -- are relevant. There is no one single "best" elementary school in Montgomery County.

West side, too. Also north and south.

MCPS does not have kids skip grades. That is very old fashioned. Kids need to be with their social peers. Your child will receive the learning he needs.

What else matters? Where do you work? Price range? MoCo is a huge area with almost 100 elementary schools.
