All schools have something, and I would take CM over any other public school option in the city- at least for my DD.

Another parent here - I've never heard this about her.

I find her very responsive to any issue I pose to her about my child and the school. If you email her directly, she always responds quickly - and we receive tons of communication from the school.

CMI parent here- lots of communication from the school. Golnar is very quick to respond to parents as well. However the teachers, who are excellent (and hired by Golnar) seem to have expressed concerns with the internal communication. So far we have not had a lot of turnover of teacher- but my fear is that this could happen and only be harmful to the school.

Thank you for clarifying. Some of your fellow CM parents are acting like it's not possible to both love the school and have concerns. Every school, even the absolute best, have things that don't work for all families or all staff. I am immediately wary when all I hear is glowing reports and criticism of any negative reports because "They must not really go to our school".

Or maybe we don't have concerns.

I'm wondering if any CPI families or teachers would be willing to share their thoughts or experience?

I would not even know that CM exist if not for this forum, and I do not even know where it is. But if you really are a person who would like to have info on the school, I think you should go to the school, talk to the administration yourself, ask the parents around and so on. soliciting answers from a anonymous forum does not stike me like a good idea (I did not do it when I was reaserching the school I was interested in. went there and got feedback from real people - randon parents, friends of friends, neighbors and so on)

That's what I love most about it. It's not full of the other BS some of the schools in DC are. It's a small school and a very close family vibe to it. Most of the stuff I read on DCUM are obviously from people who are not from the school.[/quote]

Totally agree. I sometimes laugh at some of the comments made about the school by people who are obviously not part of the school community. I think to myself, "Where did you get this BS from?"

Not OP, but, really? What exactly is the purpose of a "DC Public and Public Charter School" forum if not to discuss the public and public charter schools? It is fine if you do not want to discuss them (no one makes you come here are read the threads), and no one is saying that decisions should be made on info from this forum alone. But to think that is not actually the whole point of this forum is ridiculous.

I agree with both of the previous 2 PPs: DCUM is absolutely a good place to ask for feedback, because the anonymity cuts both ways: sometimes you get MORE honest feedback than you would in person, and sometimes you get made up stuff and it's not always easy to tell the difference. Also, many parents researching schools don't know anyone who goes to each school currently, so that's another reason it's a good idea to come here. Already in this thread there is some real feedback, and it's disingenous to assume that any negative feedback is somehow not from a real parent.

On the other hand, there is NOTHING like going your self and experiencing the school yourself, in whatever small way you can. We ruled out CM exactly because of our interactions with the Principal and some of the staff, although there were other staff who were great at the Open House, expos, and one time we went to the school when it wasn't an open house. So we've had both experiences, but it was the in person interactions that simplified for us that it wasn't a good fit for us. But there are MANY parents we've met who absolutely love it, so it's obviously a good fit for a lot of people and there are MANY trying to go.

Combine the feedback you read here when you research any and all in person, real person feedback and engagement you can get. That's the best way to weigh a school you're serious about.

Does anyone know if CM will do a public lottery this year for a change, so that its' all out in the open?

Could you talk a little more about concerns with her treatment of staff? Thanks.

It is a public not a private school. Your expectations should follow.

I've been following the CM threads closely and, with the exception of the "new Founders" thread, I am pretty sure the criticisms come from the same few people.

Yes, I am CM parent and we love the school. We have never had a proplem with the administration in any way. They have always respond to our questions in a professional and timely manner. T

I do not have personal experience, but I will say the stuff I've read on this forum make me wonder about the school...particularly the most recent discussion about identifying people as "new founders" convieniently after the lottery results were announced.
