Either way would make more sense. When do parents have to let the schools know about their decision on transferring to a center?

I don't get why they don't move up the process by about 2 weeks so they can get the appeals done and hold the orientations after the appeals are done and right before the end of school.

Why can't the orientations be held a bit later in May?

Some schools call. So they'll call those who got accepted, but letters on Saturday.

The theory behind Saturday reception is so that parents have time to settle a bit during the weekend upon rejection letter before calling schools right away.

I can confirm that letters were received on a Saturday in 2011. My money is on Saturday May 4 this year, with Local Level IV orientations that Monday-Wednesday (the base schools like to beat the centers to the punch).

There's another thread about AAP letter, and you usually receive it on Fridays or Saturdays.

I think I received mine on Saturdays in 2011 and 2012
May 2 2009 was also indeed Saturday.

We received the AAP letter a while ago. Letting us know DD was admitted to AAP.
