As a kid who got free lunch at a school where that was a minority situation, it's shaming enough without having to work for the crappy lunch. Also, I did work. babysitting at 12, fast food starting at 16. I"m still bitter.

Your blanket statement is ridiculous. Typical liberal: Accept and be tolerant of everyone ... unless they disagree with you.

And THAT is why people hate Democrats.

Really, you are the one saying "typical" all the time, and you are bothered by an overgeneralization?

Total hypocrite.

Wow, he sounds like a charmer. There is a difference between a handout and food for a young, school aged child. If anything, create jobs and child care for those who care able to work on welfare, but do not punish the children because of their parents limited income.

I grew up in WV. The sad thing is, we had at least one kid in my school who was clearly not well-to-do and who I know would work on his family's small farm after school. And to think now he would have double-duty.

“It is pathetic that in a country as wealthy as this, that we’re talking about whether we should feed kids or not,” House Majority Leader Brent Boggs (D) said.

I agree with this. You are punishing kids for the sins of their parents.

Public school is free. Why not put them to work in order to take classes?

I can see both sides here. I wonder if anything like this would happen in the DC area.

I also wonder if the number magically starts getting smaller
