Be careful what you ask for. I think you want positive attention and this will only bring negative, if any, attention because it is quite selfish and obnoxious. If you want attention, do something nice for others, like the other PP said, bring cupcakes, cookies, or donuts in to "celebrate" your birthday and leave them in the break room with a note something like "Please help me celebrate my birthday. Enjoy!"

If you ever want attention, do something nice for someone else. You'll be surprised, if you have a reputation as a nice person, amazingly, others will do nice things for you, but you have to have the reputation first. Otherwise, you'll be that selfish person that no one thinks to be nice to.

Talk to your therapist about it.

For my last birthday, I brought in cupcakes to share with anyone in the office that wanted them. But I see that as very different than putting up random decorations and hoping for someone else to do something for you.

yes--- but for people who birthdays matter a lot you could start a birthday club. I wouldn't do it around your own birthday b/c that seems tacky- but ask your coworkers if they would like to join a birthday club- and take turns getting cakes for one another.

Is it pathetic to put up pictures or decorations to indicate to other co-workers who might not know that you recently had a birthday?
